NRCS Staff Honored for Federal Service

NRCS staff at 2003 FEAWM award ceremony(AMHERST) September 26, 2003 - Several USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service staff members were honored in the 1st Annual Excellence in Government Awards announced by the Federal Executive Association of Western Massachusetts (FEAWM). These awards honor the “best and the brightest” in local federal service. Awards have been presented to outstanding federal employees in 12 categories.

FEAWM board members David Tuttle, State Director of USDA Rural Development in Amherst, and Jeffrey Anliker, Assistant State Conservationist for USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Amherst, announced the winners during a luncheon at The Log Cabin in Holyoke.

Angela Boissonault of Wilbraham, Secretary for the NRCS in Amherst, was named Administrative Assistant of the Year. Beverly Daignault of Pittsfield, Secretary for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Pittsfield, was named Outstanding Federal Volunteer. Cecil Currin of Hadley, State Conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Amherst, was selected for the Outstanding Diversity Contribution award.

NRCS Massachusetts staff members who were nominated for awards include: Carl Gustafson, State Conservation Engineer, nominated for Distinguished Federal Supervisor; Nancy Sheard, Civil Engineering Technician, nominated for Outstanding Service or Trade Employee of the Year; Barbara Miller, Geographic Information System Specialist, nominated for Professional Employee of the Year; and David Nelson, Assistant State Conservation Engineer, nominated for Technical and Scientific Employee of the Year.

The FEAWM is an association of more than 20 federal agencies that serve the people of western Massachusetts. The FEAWM includes leaders from the departments of Agriculture, Defense, Interior, Justice, Labor, Treasury and Veterans Affairs, as well as the District Court, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., General Services Administration, Small Business Administration and the Social Security Administration.
