About the MLRA Office

MLRA Office 12 provides quality assurance, technical guidance and support, and soil technology transfer to National Cooperative Soil Survey project offices in an area extending from northeastern Ohio east to northern New Jersey and northeast to Maine.

The MLRA Office 12 Region is divided into 12 Major Land Resource Areas (MLRA's) with about 40 soil surveys in various stages of production, 17 of which are active "in the field" projects. These projects are a single county, or in some instances, multiple counties which are subsets of Major Land Resource Areas. Agriculture Handbook 296, "Land Resource Regions and Major Land Resource Areas of the United States" provides more information about Major Land Resource Areas. Contact a local office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for more information.
